Terms of Use

These Terms of Use (“Terms”) govern your use of the CastLog mobile app and related services (“CastLog”, “the app”), provided by AJ Software Development. By creating an account or using the app you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please don't use CastLog.

1. The app

CastLog is a fishing-log app for anglers. It lets you record catches, use AI to help identify species and estimate size from photos, view conditions, and (optionally) share catches and notes with the community.

2. Your account

  • You must be at least 13 years old to use CastLog.
  • You're responsible for keeping your sign-in details secure and for activity under your account.
  • Provide accurate information and keep it up to date.

3. CastLog Pro subscriptions

CastLog Pro is an auto-renewing subscription, available in two plans:

  • Monthly — £4.99 / month
  • Annual — £39.99 / year

New subscribers may be offered a 7-day free trial. Unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the trial ends, the subscription begins and the plan price is charged.

  • Payment is charged to your Apple ID at confirmation of purchase.
  • The subscription renews automatically for the same period at the same price unless you turn off auto-renew at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
  • Manage or cancel anytime in your Apple ID Settings → Subscriptions. Cancelling stops future renewals; you keep Pro until the end of the paid period.
  • Prices may vary by region and are confirmed in the App Store at purchase. We may change prices for future periods with notice.
  • Any unused portion of a free trial is forfeited when you buy a subscription.

Purchases are processed by Apple and are also governed by Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement (the standard Apple EULA), which applies to the app in addition to these Terms.

4. Fair Usage Policy

The AI features (photo identification and “what to try today” suggestions) call paid third-party AI services on our servers each time they run. To keep CastLog sustainable and fast for everyone — and to prevent automated abuse — AI use is subject to fair, per-user limits:

  • Free accounts: 5 AI photo identifications in total (lifetime).
  • CastLog Pro — AI photo identification: up to 30 per day.
  • CastLog Pro — AI trip suggestions: up to a set number per day.

These limits are set well above what a typical angler needs in a day. “Unlimited” in our marketing means unlimited everyday personal use within this Fair Usage Policy — not unrestricted or automated bulk use.

You agree not to:

  • Use scripts, bots or automated tools to call the AI features.
  • Share, resell or pool a single account's AI allowance across multiple people.
  • Submit images you don't have the right to use, or content that is unlawful, abusive or attempts to manipulate the AI.

We may adjust these limits to keep the service sustainable, and we'll reflect material changes here. We may suspend or limit accounts that breach this policy. Daily limits reset each day (UTC).

5. Acceptable use

When using community features (shares, spot notes) you agree not to post content that is unlawful, harassing, misleading, or infringes others' rights. We may moderate, hide or remove content and may suspend accounts that breach these Terms.

6. Your content

You keep ownership of the photos and content you create. By sharing content to the community you grant us a licence to host and display it within CastLog for that purpose. You're responsible for the content you submit.

7. AI estimates & fishing information — no warranty

AI species identifications, weight/length estimates, suggestions, weather and water-level data are provided for guidance only and may be inaccurate or incomplete. They are not a substitute for your own judgement. You are responsible for complying with all local fishing laws, licences, close seasons and landowner permissions, and for handling fish safely and humanely. We are not liable for decisions you make based on information in the app.

8. Availability

We aim to keep CastLog available but don't guarantee uninterrupted service. Features may change, and we may suspend or discontinue parts of the service. Some features depend on third-party services that may be unavailable at times.

9. Liability

To the extent permitted by law, CastLog is provided “as is” without warranties. We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for loss arising from your reliance on AI output or other information in the app. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

10. Termination

You can stop using CastLog and request account deletion at any time (see our Privacy Policy). We may suspend or terminate accounts that breach these Terms.

11. Changes

We may update these Terms. We'll post changes here and update the date above, and notify you in-app of significant changes before they take effect.

12. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of England & Wales, and disputes are subject to the courts of England & Wales.
